glock 19 and 23

Glock 19 And 23 - I was surprised by the popularity of the Glock 19 9mm compared to the Glock 23 .40S&W among casual shooters.

I don't know anyone who would take the time and money to carry a Glock 23. Almost everyone in my circle of friends and associates has at least a Glock 19.

The pistols are identical in size and shape and fit in the same slot. My ruler, tape measure, and calipers each show that they are 7.35 inches long, about 5.0 inches tall, and 1.18 inches thick.

They weigh just 23.6 ounces unloaded and compress to 32 ounces when loaded. Neither Glock has a manual safety. The firing pin block and trigger safety lever are full show. Real safety is between the ears.

The real difference is magazine capacity. The Glock 19 9mm holds 15 rounds, while the Glock 23.40 caliber pistol holds 13 rounds.

The Glock 23 has a typical Glock double-action trigger. There is only one stimulus to learn. In my example, the action is quick and light enough at six pounds. Resetting the trigger is quick.

The Glock 23 is smooth, snappy, and just feels good in the hand. The sights are more than adequate to get the job done, especially with night vision options. The Glock is easily disassembled and serviced in the field.

Overall, the Glock 23 is not only a good concealed carry pistol, but also an acceptable service pistol.

This brings us to an obvious comparison. The Glock Model 23 is chambered in .40 Smith & Wesson. The .40 is the result of much research into the problems that have plagued police firearms for over 100 years.

The Smith & Wesson .38 Special handled and fired well. The problem is that the work is not done.

The original 158-grain RNL .38 was often referred to as a "widow" by officers who failed to load it.

The author's personal Glock 23 is compared to the Glock 19. Although they are similar weapons, the firing characteristics of the .40 caliber are different due to the recoil of the bullet.

Finally, the powerful .357 Magnum cartridge was housed in a relatively compact gun. The Smith & Wesson Model 19 and later the Model 13 were excellent service guns.

The problem was that they were difficult to control without extensive training. Magnum ammo was also solid as a weapon. They didn't crack or explode, but the magnum's recoil was hard on small pieces.

The .40 was mounted the same way as the 9mm frame and had the same problem.

Glock 23: Why It Should Be Your New Carry Gun

The .40 S&W is harder to control than the 9mm, and the wear and tear on the gun is considered higher, but this varies from brand to brand.

Will we ever learn? However, a Federal Bureau of Investigation survey a few years ago confirmed that many officials were aware. A 35+ oz gun is a load at the end of the day.

The 9mm pistol is easy to carry and fits in your hand. A .45 caliber pistol like the excellent Glock 21 will suffice for most hand sizes.

As evidenced by well-documented cases and studies, there was a general consensus that the 9mm was inadequate for police work.

We can argue about the 9mm from here to Ragnorak, but the truth is that the wound potential of the 9mm is not equal to the .45 ACP - but the .45 is too heavy to carry.

I'm sure the .45 can be as light as the 9mm, but the .900 inch case requires a longer handle frame. Same goes for 10mm.

The .40 has been around for a while as a centimeter bullet - the .41 Action Express and others. The .40 S&W was a success story.

However, the screen is slightly cracked. The federal agency rushed to introduce the Glock 32, and officers reverted to the 9mm because the Glock 23 didn't meet the previous high standards.

This is incomprehensible. The return is greater. The first rounds of .40 caliber ammunition were not very accurate. Some may be overheated.

A number of strains present a very good chance of wounding. I've added some results from Paladin Press' 21st Century Stopping Power water test.

The author is a military intelligence officer and can verify and replicate the results. As you can see, the .40 caliber bullet covers the spectrum of light and heavy bullets and different velocities and offers more wounding potential than the 9mm. But this is not the whole story.

Glock 19 And 23

Shooting position means a lot. The Glock 19 9mm is easier to shoot than a .40 caliber pistol. Although it is possible to calculate the return energy, the easiest way is to calculate the energy coefficient.

This is the weight of the bullet divided by 1000 times the velocity. For most shooters, it's generally believed that a capacity of 20 or more is too much to handle in a personal defense weapon.

9mm protective loads are 13 to 14 and .40 is 17 or more. 20 for 0.45 of 230 grains; A standard 185 grain 0.45 ACP load is about 17. (PF is not a full picture - the full size Glock 21 0.45 is one of the easiest hitting pistols in the Glock line due to its size and weight.)

So we have a pistol that hits hard but kicks harder. Wow, Einstein was right! Many shooters choose the 9mm if they want a lot of ammo and the .45 if they want the firepower. Nothing wrong with that, but they ignore the .40.

I personally like the Glock 23. I was impressed with the results I thoroughly researched and cataloged. For those willing to practice and accept shorter time between shots, more recoil, and perhaps slightly less absolute accuracy, the Model 23 offers impressive real-world ballistics.

The Glock 23 shoots just as fast as the Glock 19. For those considering a compact handgun and looking beyond the .45, the Glock 23 offers the best of both worlds. The Glock 23 isn't for everyone, but what gun is it? It's a well-balanced, reliable gun, and it's all Glock.

The Glock 23 debuted in 1990 with the new .40 S&W cartridge and has been with us for over 30 years. Essentially a Glock 19 with a heavier slide and larger barrel, the Glock 23 is the full-size Glock 22's sibling.

I will never forget the first time I shot a Glock 23. It was a second generation police model that I bought at a local gun store along with a pair of Hogue Hand-all rubber gloves. The short frame felt good in my hands, so I cornered it on the test track and loaded it up.

Up to this point, I had only shot .22, 9mm, and .45 ACP semi-auto revolvers and had no experience with the .23. It was much faster than turning the barrel height. I got used to it but could manage it. After a few rounds I got it and was left with a permanent smile at the end of the magazine.

The second impression was the trigger. This was my first Glock experience and I really enjoyed the consistent trigger pull. Not too light and not too heavy without switching from double action to single action like my friend's old Ruger P-89.

Ring's Glock 19/23/32 Bluegun

I appreciated the thirteen-round magazine capacity and the ability to have fifteen rounds of fun to use the larger Glock 22 rounds. As for aiming, the Glock's stock setup is adequate for my target shooting. (Prefer optics over iron? Check out my guide to holographic sights)

The only complaint I can make against this gun is that the finger grooves on the 3rd and 4th generation models do not fit my finger when short gripped.
